Pokémon TCG World Champion (10-) 2006:
Hiroki Yano
Eleven-year-old Hiroki Yano of Daito-city in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, will join the battle in Hawaii this year to defend his title as World Champion that he earned last year with his powerful "B-L-S" deck. His interview includes both English and Japanese for his fans on both sides of the Pacific!
Q1. What's your favorite Pokémon card of all time and why? (It's okay to say something like, "Birthday Pikachu because it took me so long to get it!" or "Water Energy—it was the last card I played before I won the Championships!")
一番好きなカードを1枚教えてください。その理由も教えてください。（次のような回答でもＯＫです。例えば、「手に入れるのに時間がかかったので、おたんじょうびピカチュウ」または、「世界大会で最後に使ったカードだったので、水エネルギー」など。）
A1. Totodile because it is cute. I loved it even before starting to play the card game.
ワニノコです。可愛いらしくて、カードを始める前から大好きです。
Q2. How long have you played the trading card game?
ポケモンカードを始めて何年になりますか。
A2. Little bit over two years.
２年と少しです。
Q3. Where do you keep your trophy from last year's competition?
去年もらったトロフィーは今どこにありますか。
A3. I displayed it on the top of piano in the living room, but it gathered a lot of dust.
リビングのピアノの上で飾ってて、埃だらけです。
Q4. When you think back to August 2006 and the World Championships where you dominated, what is your fondest memory of that weekend? What sort of details to you remember about your weekend in Anaheim?
ものすごく強かった去年の大会を思い出してください。大会中、一番思い出に残っていることはどんなことですか。
A4-1. The Last attack that determined my win.
My battle Pokémon was Steelix ex and my opponent had Blastoise ex but couldn't attack my Pokémon. I attached 5 energy cards to Steelix ex by using Energy Drain and retreated it to the Bench. Then, I used Shooting Star of Latias [star] and Knocked Out my opponent's Pokémon. Win.
優勝を決めた最後の攻撃。こちらのバトルポケモンがハガネールex、相手がカメックスexで攻撃されずに迎えた返しのターン。 ハガネールexにエナジーレインで５エネをつけてベンチに逃がし、ラティアス☆のシューティングスターで倒して優勝を決めた。
A4-2. The third match in the final four
I won the first match and lost the second. It was up to the third match.
I had a choice of going first or second. I had Blastoise ex, Rare Candy, Lugia ex, two Water Energy cards, Holon's Magneton, and Celio's Network. My opponent had only one battle Pokémon, so I went second. My opponent's Porygon attacked my Lugia ex. Now, my turn to attack. I drew Squirtle. I used Rare Candy to evolve it to Blastoise ex. I used Elemental Blast of Lugia ex, and Knocked Out my opponent's Pokémon and won.
準々決勝の３戦。１戦目を先取し、２戦目を取られて迎えた最終戦。最終戦の先攻、後攻の選択権がある状況で、手札にカメックスex、ふしぎなアメ、ルギアｅｘ、水エネルギーが２枚、ホロンのレアコイル、ニシキのネットワーク。相手のバトルポケモンが１体で、後攻選択。相手のバトルポケモンのポリゴンが、ルギアｅｘを攻めて、迎えた後攻ターン。ドローがゼニガメで、ふしぎなアメを使ってカメックスｅｘを立てて、
ルギアｅｘのエレメンタルブラストで後攻１ターンで勝てた。
Q5. How did you celebrate your victory last year?
優勝をどのようにして祝いましたか。
A5. I and my card game friends got together at BBQ restaurant and celebrated my victory.
カード仲間で集まって、焼肉を食べて祝勝会をした。
Q6. In the weeks after your Championship victory last year, how did you feel about being a World Champion player? How did friends and family react to your victory?
世界大会で優勝して、チャンピオンになりました。大会後、どんな気分でしたか。家族や友達は裕貴君が優勝したことについてどう思っていましたか。
A6. I was glad to win although it was totally luck, I think. My family and friends were happy that I played so well.
たまたま運良く勝てたけど嬉しかった。家族や友達が凄い凄いと喜んでくれた。
Q7. Not long after the Championships, Pokémon USA Inc., released a World Championships deck based on the deck you won with! What was it like to suddenly be a celebrity in the world of Pokémon players? Did people challenge you with your own deck after that?
世界大会が終わって、裕貴くんのチャンピオンデッキが発売されました！ポケモンプレーヤーの世界で突然有名になったわけですが、どんな気分でしたか。裕貴くんに挑戦してきた人はいますか。
A7. I didn't have a sense of being a celebrity in the world at all. I always lost when somebody challenged me. I think I used all my luck.
世界で有名になったという実感がありません。挑戦してきた人たちと戦っても、負けてばかりです。運を使い果たしたみたい。
Q8. You’ve had a year to prepare to defend your title in Hawaii. How have you spent that time getting ready? Who have you played with to get ready, and who have your biggest supporters been?
今年の大会に向けて、1年間準備をしてきたことと思います。どのように準備を進めてきましたか。裕貴君の一番のサポーターは誰ですか。また、どうしてその人が一番のサポーターなのですか。
A8. I haven't done much preparation. I just use my favorite Pokémon, Totodile and build a deck around it and play. My biggest supporter is my dad. When I told him that I want to be really good, he helped me.
これといった準備をせず、大好きなワニノコのデッキを作って対戦してます。サポーターはお父さんです。強くなりたいと言った時に手伝ってくれました。。
Q9. What do you expect to see at this year's World Championships—are there certain deck types, certain card combo, certain styles of play that you think will be popular or common? How do you think Diamond & Pearl will influence the environment this year? (Please be certain not to reveal anything about your own strategy or deck construction; we want to keep your plans secret, of course!)
今年の大会で期待することはどんなことですか。どんなことが起きると思いますか。みんなどんなカードを使って、どんなデッキを構築してくると思いますか。Ｄ Ｐカードがどんな風に使われると思いますか。（戦略やデッキ構築の詳細が分からないように答えてください。裕貴君の作戦をひみつにしておきたいので！）
A9. I am looking forward to seeing various decks mixed with EX Series and DP Series. Because the Weaknesses of the Stage 2 Pokémon from the DP Series aren't doubled as previous series, and of the LV.X cards, I’m sure people will have strong decks. Among Infernape, Empoleon, and Torterra, I think Empoleon is the strongest. I would like to use my favorite Tododile deck or Empoleon LV.X if I used DP cards, but I can't build a strong deck. So, I’m still debating what deck I should use for Worlds.
ＰＣＧとＤＰのカードが入り混じって、色々なデッキが出てきそうで楽しみ。ＤＰの２進化のポケモンは、弱点が２倍じゃないし、レベルＸがいるので強そうです。ゴウカザル、エンペルト、ド ダイトスの中では、エンペルトが一番強いと思います。僕は好きなワニノコデッキかＤＰならエンペルトＸを使いたいけど、良さそうなデッキができないので、世界大会で使用するデッキを悩んでます。
Q10. Who will be cheering for you in the audience at this year's competition? How does it feel to know that so many people are rooting for you—people who know you, people who are cheering for you to represent your country, people who don’t know you at all but really like how you play?
今年の大会で、裕貴くんに声援を送ってくれるのは誰ですか。日本からの選手など知っている人も知らない人も含め、たくさんの人が裕貴くんを応援してくれるときどんな気持ちになりますか。
A10. Because my family and friends in Japan will cheer for me, I will do my best to win. Also, some of my friends are playing at the Worlds. I am really looking forward to seeing them play. I will cheer for the Japanese players because I want a Japanese player to be a Champion!
家族と日本のお友達が応援してくれると思うので、頑張って１つでも多く勝ちたいです。あと、今回の世界大会は、お友達がたくさん出場するので楽しみです。日本の誰かが優勝できるように、僕も友達を応援します。
Q11. Of course, you undoubtedly want to be the World Champion again this year. But if you were going to be another player’s coach and you wanted to give advice to that player on how to succeed at Worlds, what would you say?
もちろん、今年も優勝を目指していることと思います！もし、誰かのコーチになるとしたら、どのようなアドバイスをしますか。
A11. It is okay to lose but do not make a careless mistake, Do your best, and enjoy!
