The Professor Program is
not a fan club, though its members are among the most dedicated Pokémon fans. A Pokémon Professor
is someone who has a thorough understanding of the Pokémon TCG and of organized play. Professors
have a desire to share their knowledge with others and to help the game grow. They work at
tournaments and leagues, acting as judges and organizers, and adhering to the
Spirit of the
Game and the
Professor Core
Values.
Potential Professors are required to pass an exam, which tests their knowledge of game mechanics, card rulings, and the organized-play guidelines. A minimum of 80 percent of the questions must be answered correctly before a player is allowed to enter the ranks of the Professor Program. Players who don’t pass the exam may take it again after a brief waiting period.
When a Professor acts as a judge at a tournament, runs a League season, etc., he or she earns credits that can be redeemed for Professor-exclusive items from the Professor Rewards store. In addition, Professors who perform a certain level of service are among the first solicited to assist Pokémon USA at conventions and other major events, such as the Pokémon TCG World Championships.
